Why is early intervention so important?
This campus-wide effort notifies the SSC of undergraduate students in need of assistance. The SSC staff contacts these at-risk students to address issues and discuss solutions to help students reach their academic goals.
Who should use SOS?
Any NYIT faculty or staff member who is concerned about an undergraduate student should submit an SOS.
When to use SOS?
An SOS can be submitted for any undergraduate student who exhibits at-risk behaviors in or outside the classroom. At-risk behaviors include, but are not limited to: poor academic performance, academic disengagement, and attendance issues.
How can I submit an SOS?
An SOS can be submitted any time during the fall or spring semester. SOS forms and submission boxes can be found with your department administrator and at the Student Solutions Center or submitted online.
What happens after I submit an SOS?
An SSC manager will contact the student right away to discuss the issue and will follow up with the concerned faculty or staff member when a resolution is reached.
Does an SOS go on a student's permanent record?
No. The system is not designed to penalize students, but instead to address academic difficulties early on in the semester so that a student can successfully complete his or her semester.
