NYIT-Vancouver Professional Enrichment Workshop: The Art of Conversation

Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Management

The Mechanical Engineering program at New York Institute of Technology is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), Inc. As a graduate you will have a wide choice of career opportunities. Mechanical engineers specialize in the design and development of mechanical systems, structures, advanced transportation and energy systems. We work in a variety of fields including energy conversion, product design and development, manufacturing, construction, and research. With the introduction of CAD/CAM processes, the mechanical engineer is at the cutting edge of new technologies that enhance career choices and rewards.

ME students will take courses in mechanical engineering, science and design with an increasing emphasis on the computer as a tool to assist in homework and laboratory assignments. Our unique PRO/ENGINEER lab has proven to be exceptionally valuable in teaching design, analysis -- and teamwork -- as part of our third and fourth year courses. Courses are designed to produce versatile engineers capable of subsequent growth within industry and to prepare them to pursue graduate education.

You will be strongly encouraged to participate in a variety of research activities. Funded programs such as building a hybrid electric car or photovoltaic/solar energy conversion, for example, have provided our students “real world” experiences not often found in the classroom. We offer a five-year combined program leading to the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Science in Energy Management. As an interdisciplinary curriculum, it is designed to train students who intend to function in engineering and leadership roles in various energy-related industries.

The college also offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Management. The program is designed to train students who intend to function in managerial and leadership positions in manufacturing, the service sector, or government agencies.
