Environmental technology is a specialized area of engineering that focuses on pollution, waste management and environmental preservation. Engineers and technologists in this field combine knowledge of natural sciences, physical sciences, mathematics, mechanical engineering, and computer technology to conduct research and find solutions to environmental issues that satisfy the concerns of government, business interests and environmental lobbyists. View our curriculum and our graduate catalog.
Increasing concerns about the environment and the growing needs of business and industry have resulted in strong career opportunities for environmental specialists. Your NYIT degree will prepare you for high-level positions in private companies, non-profit concerns or government agencies. You’ll also be prepared to start your own consulting business, or for advanced study in engineering or a related field.
It is a pleasure to hear of your interest in the Master of Science in Environmental Technology program at NYIT. The practice-oriented program of study features small classes taught by distinguished senior professors who are practicing professionals. The faculty will bring real-world problems into the classroom in addition to providing entry into the professional world through counseling and internship programs.
The thirty-six (36) credits of study, 15 credits of required courses, 15 credits of electives and a 6 credit thesis requirements will provide competence in the demanding and changing environmental field. Elective courses in Geographical Information Systems and the Hazardous Waste Handling – 40 Hour OSHA “Hazwoper” class will provide entry-level skills or upgrade your current capabilities. Your thesis will help solve a significant environmental problem that will be of interest to your future or current employer.
Our graduates are employed at all levels of government from the USEPA to the Suffolk County Health Department, New York City DEP to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, numerous consulting and technical organizations and school systems. Please note that you may qualify for a scholarship if you have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.3 or are a NYIT alumnus. Additional information can be obtained when your application is submitted.
We are looking forward to meeting you in person on campus on soon as possible. Should you have questions, please feel free to contact me directly.
