The Master of Science in Information, Network, and Computer Security program, offered through the Computer Science Department of NYIT, is applied in nature and is focused on the study of several important security skills that are in short supply today. The program addresses aspects of security from the network layer up to the application layer, providing a comprehensive understanding of security and its implications on the network, web services infrastructure, databases, and software design. The specific areas of study include, but not limited to: best practices in security, network protection, intrusion detection, and hacker exploits. View our curriculum and our graduate catalog.
Demand for computer scientists will remain high as long as our society uses computer technology. Your NYIT degree will prepare you to work in private industry, government, the military and academia. You may also choose to start your own consulting enterprise. You’ll also be prepared for advanced study in computer science or computer engineering.
The New York Institute of Technology's Information Technology program is more application and less mathematically oriented than our Computer Science curriculum. The students take courses in Information Technology, Computer Science, Liberal Arts and Sciences. The program provides various options in Computer Security, Interactive Digital Media, Telecommunications and Computer Security. The minor concentration provides the students with an opportunity to focus in an area of application and interest. In addition to our extensive computer facilities, the students have access to state-of-the-art laboratories in computer and network security, electronics, telecommunications and others.
Security, in particular, is one of the most important concerns in information technology today. Apart from increased connectivity and a broad range of new services, the advent of new telecommunication and information technologies in the last decade has also given technically advanced intruders the opportunity to carry out a variety of attacks, thereby threatening the integrity of the infrastructure and violating the privacy of users. Jeopardizing global network operations, these attacks are even viewed as the major impediment to further development of business applications over the Internet. As the main countermeasure to these problems, security of communications and computer systems has become an important requirement both for users of on-line services and for technical specialists involved in the design of networks and applications.
This has created an unprecedented demand for computer professionals with expertise in security. The Master of Science in Information, Network, and Computer Security offered at NYIT addresses this critical need of industry by providing graduates with a broad and practical skill set in implementation of secure information systems. Our faculty, with Ph.D.'s in computer science and electrical and computer-related areas coupled with industrial and research experience, bring to the classroom a practical and career oriented knowledge and expertise.
