Computer science has transformed the world with advances that can be applied to every industry and level of human interaction. Computer scientists, often working in teams with computer engineers, develop databases, design systems, create artificial intelligence, invent new programming languages, configure networks, and introduce computer-based solutions to professionals in non-technical fields.
The primary educational objective of the computer science program at NYIT is to produce well-rounded graduates that have a wide range of skills, aptitudes, and interests, and who are prepared for successful careers in industry and government and/or graduate studies. The coursework in computer science--comprehensive, rigorous, flexible and prepares students to solve real-world problems as well as to do fundamental research--includes:
Present options include areas such as internet engineering, distributed information systems, and computer graphics, with minor concentrations in engineering, fine arts, and business. All students have access to sophisticated computer equipment and up-to-date laboratory facilities. View our curriculum and our undergraduate catalog.
The rigor and comprehensive nature of the curriculum make our students highly desirable for employment after graduation with high starting salaries and many students receiving multiple offers in their senior year. It also enables them to pursue advanced degrees in their field or in fields as diverse as law, medicine and business.
At NYIT our goal is to provide students with an educational experience that is characterized by high academic standards, is person-oriented and with reflection on contemporary values and principles prepares students for a lifelong career in computer science. And, the flexibility of the program and minor electives in engineering, management, mathematics, or communication arts leads to employment opportunities in areas outside their traditional disciplines.
