• Meet with a faculty advisor to discuss career options.
• Use on-campus academic resources such as the Learning Center and libraries.

Extracurricular Activities

• Meet and network with classmates in your major.
• Attend NYIT conferences and events that feature industry leaders.
• Join a professional student organization related to your major or career goal.

Second Year - 31 to 62 credits

During your second year (31-62 credits), think about career exploration and integration via:

• Sign up for the Internship Certificate Program and learn how to obtain your first college internship.
• Work part-time or volunteer with a company related to your major or career goals.
• Meet with us to learn about job search strategies, resumes, and portfolios.

Academics

• Complete introductory courses in your major or prospective major. Expand your skill base by exploring elective courses.
• Interact with faculty, administrators, and peers to develop a support network.

Extracurricular Activities

• Test the reality of your career choice through internships and part-time and summer jobs.
• Explore and clarify your interests, strengths, skills, abilities, values, and career goals.

Third Year - 63 to 96 credits

In your third year (63-96 credits), focus on career preparation via:

• Attend career workshops, expos and job fairs.
• Begin to network through the alumni mentor program, your department and professional organizations.
• Update your resume and post it on Career Net.
• Test your career decision commitment and qualifications for your chosen field by participating in career-related internships, and summer or part-time employment.

Academic Resources

• Join and a take a leadership role in student  professional organization.

Extracurricular Activities

• Assess your career choice in relation to your values, strengths, interests, and career goals.
• Inventory your qualifications for your chosen field of work, and work on weaknesses.

Fourth Year - 96 credits or more

During your fourth year (96 credits or more), focus on your career preparation and job search via:

• Have a career-ready resume uploaded in NYIT Career Net
• Visit this site often to find out about off-campus career events in the tri-state area.
• Register for on-campus interviews using NYIT Career Net.
• Make an appointment for a mock interview session.

Academic Resources

• Ask faculty and administrators if you can use them as references before giving their names to potential employwers. Give them an up-to-date resume.
• Network with NYIT faculty, alumni, and peers to make contacts with potential employers.

Extracurricular Activities

• Plan your job or graduate school campaign. Develop a timetable for your job search  and career development.
• Take inventory of skills you've developed.
